2 Peter Chapter 1a - Empowered By The Lord - Audio
False teachers are in the church. What are Christians to do? In this verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Peter 1:1-4, Pastor Charlie gives an overview of 2 Peter, explains 5 reasons why the author is Simon Peter the apostle of Jesus, and how we are empowered for godly living by the Lord. This is the first teaching in the verse-by-verse study of 2 Peter. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below, and the written teaching (more extensive) is also available.

2 Peter Chapter 1b - Abounding In The Virtues Of Christ - Audio
The main message of 2 Peter is to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But just how do you do this? In this verse-by-verse teaching of 2 Peter 1:5-11, Pastor Charlie explains why the "golden chain of Christian virtues" is so critical in the life of every believer. The 5 "these things" statements are taught. The PowerPoint file for this audio teaching is below.

2 Peter Chapter 1c - The Day Of The Lord Will Surely Come - Audio
What was the Transfiguration of Jesus all about? Why did Jesus' face have to shine like the sun and His clothes glow dazzling white? In this verse-by-verse teaching of 2 Peter 1:12-21, Pastor Charlie answers these questions. He starts out with the 3 "reminders" of verses 12-15, then the Transfiguration from Peter's perspective in verses 16-18. Finally, he teaches on how the apostolic and prophetic witness of the Scriptures confirm the certainty of the Day of the Lord, contrary to the beliefs of the false teachers. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

2 Peter Chapter 2a - We Reap What We Sow - Audio
Using testimonies and the simple truth of the Bible, Pastor Charlie again teaches that "we will reap what we sow." This leads into a verse-by-verse teaching of 2 Peter 2:1-9. The false teachers of Peter's day thought that there would be no consequences to their actions. God's judgments in human history show that we will give an account to Him for how we live. 2 Peter Chapter 2b - The Nature And Judgment Of False Teachers - Audio
Is it really relevant to speak today about the evil nature of false teachers and God's judgment on them? Pastor Charlie reviews what is presented on Christian TV in some circles. He shows the corruption, deceit, and greed. In this verse-by-verse teaching of 2 Peter 2:10-17, we learn that what Peter wrote over 1,900 years ago is applicable today. We see that Balaam is the classic example of a false prophet.

2 Peter Chapter 2c - The Perils Of Relapse - Audio
This audio teaching is a verse-by-verse study of 2 Peter 2:17-22. Starting with insight on the false doctrines of Norman Vincent Peale and Robert Schuller, Pastor Avila warns us again about the emptiness of false teachers. They promise others freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption. This teaching includes a serious warning against backsliding and relapse into worldly defilements that Jesus has delivered us from. This study connects the words of Jesus in Luke 11 with 2 Peter 2:20, and further insight is given into the proverb, "The dog returns to his vomit" from Proverbs 26:11. Fools are the ones who repeat their folly.

2 Peter Chapter 3b - How Should Christians Live - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Peter 3:11-18. This is the final teaching of the Book of 2 Peter. If the heavens are going to pass away, and the earth and its works are burned up, and the elements are going to melt in the fervent heat, how should Christians live? We should live godly and holy lives, without spot and blemish. We must keep on growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy - An Overview - Audio
This is a very important introductory audio teaching of 2 Timothy. We give the historical background of the persecution under Nero. The apostle Paul is arrested in the midst of this persecution and he finds himself "in chains" for the gospel. He is "chained as an evildoer" would be. His fate is sealed. He will be martyred in a few months - "My departure is at hand," he says. Everyone in Asia has deserted him. Demas has deserted him. No one supported him at his first trial because all the Christians in Rome deserted him. He was lonely. He was also dealing with false teachers and their teachings that were "spreading like cancer." What's Paul's advice in this negative environment? Endure! Endure hardships. Endure persecutions. Endure afflictions. Endure all things! This is the theme and message of 2 Timothy. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes are available above.

2 Timothy 01 - Fan Into Flame - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 1:1-7. We exam Paul's call as an apostle and look closely at his relationship with Timothy. It's amazing that Paul prayed for Timothy "constantly" and "night and day." Who do you pray for every day? Timothy wept tears of anguish when Paul was taken away to prison. The aged apostle reminds Timothy about his "faith," "the gift of God," and the "power, love, and sound mind" that come from the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 02 - Not Ashamed - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 1:8-12. We take time in this class to exam the role of persecution and the world's hatred against Jesus and His church. In the midst of this persecution, we should never be ashamed to testify for or about the Lord and His people. This teaching emphasizes the importance of preaching this eternal gospel that saves, calls, delivers, and sets free the captives and oppressed. Paul has given himself to the gospel whereby Jesus has "abolished death and brought life and immortality to light." Paul is a herald, preacher, apostle, and teacher of this incredible gospel. And it is because of this powerful gospel that he is suffering, but he's not ashamed. He commands Timothy to join him in his sufferings. This great gospel is going to be opposed at all costs. 2 Timothy 03 - Faithless Many Faithful One - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 1:13-18. In this strong message, we exam carefully Paul's exhortation (command) to Timothy to "hold fast" the teaching he has received and to "guard" the deposit committed to him from God. While all the believers in Asia had abandoned Paul, including Phygelus and Hermogenes, there was one faithful brother from that area, Onesiphorus, who remained loyal and faithful to the aged apostle. This is an important teaching on faithfulness during times of distress and affliction. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

2 Timothy 04 - Endure Hardship - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 2:1-7. In this very important teaching, we see that Timothy's ability to withstand all of the hardships and difficulties of ministry life is going to be based on 2 things - allowing God to empower him by His grace and training other "faithful men." Christianity can only continue with an "unbroken chain of teachers." Timothy must "endure hardships" just like a soldier in the army. Then Paul uses the 3 famous metaphor of the soldier, athlete, and farmer to teach on the disciplines of the Christian life. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

2 Timothy 05 - Remember Jesus - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 2:8-19. In the midst of suffering and persecution, Paul looks to the greatest appeal of all - Jesus Christ. Paul may be chained in prison as a criminal, but the Word of God is not chained. For the sake of those who would receive salvation, Paul endures all things. With so much unfaithfulness, Paul reminds Timothy of a "faithful saying." Timothy must stay focused on diligently seeking God's approval despite the false teachings of people like Hymaneaus and Philetus. And even though all these negative things are happening, God's solid foundation remains steadfast and sure. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes are available above.

2 Timothy 06 - Vessel Of Honor - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 2:20-26. Without holiness, we are useless to the Master in ministry. To be a "vessel of honor," we must continually "cleanse ourselves," live "sanctified lives," and walk with others "who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." Sanctification opens the door for ministry opportunities - "every good work." Also, as part of the sanctification process, we must "flee youthful lusts." We can "flee" by pursuing the things of God. A key aspect of this teaching is the "gentleness" and "humility" that must be in the heart of "the Lord's servant." In these perilous days, agape love towards others who oppose and mistreat us will be indispensable to win them to Christ and lead them to repentance. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

2 Timothy 07 - Perilous Times Will Come - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 3:1-9. Timothy was living in perilous, terrible, dangerous times back then, and we are living in them now. The main reason that life will be so perilous is because of the evil and wickedness of people. Paul lists 19 different, evil character traits that will come. Heading the list is all the "lovers" - "lovers of self," "lovers of money," and "lovers of pleasure." And yet, with so much worldly love, they will be "unloving" and have no "love of God." Paul also warns Timothy that quite often, false teachers focus their attention on women - weak-willed women. Christian women are often easy prey for false prophets. Paul concludes by saying that the fight against false teachers has been with us since the days of Moses, who was opposed by the sorcerers, "Jannes and Jambres." 2 Timothy 08 - All Scripture Inspired - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 3:10-17. Paul again instructs Timothy not to get sidetracked by all the wickedness and evil around him. His three "but you's" in 3:10, 3:14, and 4:5, teach Timothy to be different. There are nine things about Paul's life that Timothy has carefully followed including the severe persecutions that he endured from three cities that Timothy grew up in, especially Lystra. Paul will not be alone in this persecution, because "all who live godly in Christ will suffer persecution," even though wicked men and imposters make their progress of "deceiving and being deceived." Paul calls Timothy back to the "Holy Scriptures," that he has known from youth, and the powerful impact that the Word of God has on people's lives and ministries. It is the main vehicle God uses to thoroughly equip any Christian for every good work. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes are available above.

2 Timothy 09 - Preach The Word - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse teaching of 2 Timothy 4:1-8. This is perhaps the most powerful word in all of 2 Timothy. Paul gives Timothy a direct mandate, a command, in the very presence of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (Who is the Final Judge) to "Preach the Word!" Timothy must be ready at all times to preach correction, rebuke, and encouragement with all longsuffering and careful instruction. This is his most important and primary task. It will be absolutely essential because a "time is coming" when people "will not endure sound doctrine." There will be an apostasy - a turning away from the truth. However, Timothy must not get distracted. He must keep his head, endure hardships, do the work of an evangelist and fulfill all of his duties of the ministry. Finally, Paul tells Timothy about his present, past, and future circumstances. His incredible statement - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" - is the most famous verse in this letter. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes are available above.

2 Timothy 10 - The Lord Stood With Me - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of 2 Timothy 4:9-22. This is the final audio teaching for the 2 Timothy course. Paul is near the end of his life, and he is urging Timothy to leave Ephesus as soon as possible, especially before winter, because he needs people, his coat, and his books/parchments. Paul's hardships continue with Demas forsaking him because of his love for the world; Alexander the coppersmith does him a great deal of harm; and the believers forsake and desert Paul at his first defense. But, as always, the Lord is faithfully at his side and strengthening him so he can continue to preach the gospel "in season and out of season." This is a fitting end to this powerful book. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

Accuser Of The Brethren - Audio
Are you critical of other Christians? Are you a fault-finder? Do you speak evil about other ministers and their churches? Are you an accuser of the brethren? Starting with Revelation 12:7-11, Pastor Charlie takes believers through a sober examination of our heart and attitudes toward other brothers and sisters in Christ. If we want the authority and power of Christ in our churches, the accuser of the brethren needs to be "cast down" in our hearts. This is one of the biggest stumbling blocks in the body of Christ today.

Addictions - A Biblical Perspective - Audio
Addictions seem to be everywhere - sexual, gambling, TV, Internet, drugs, alcohol, eating, prescription drugs, tobacco, and on-line gaming. People claim that they have compulsions beyond their control. They refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Pastor Avila returns us to a biblical perspective. The Bible says we are really "slaves of sin," "slaves of corruption," and "slaves of uncleanness." We must deny ourselves, die to self, and accept responsibility. We are without excuse. Jesus Christ is our deliverer from this life of addictions. It is important to download the PowerPoint file below as it contains very important slides that follow this audio message.

Anger 1 - Ahithophel's Anger And Revenge
Ahithophel went from gifted counselor to revengeful conspirator all because of anger that raged out of control. His son, Eliam, was one of David's mighty men. Bathsheba was his granddaughter and she married Uriah, another of David's warrior-soldiers. When David committed adultery and murder against Ahithophel's family, this trusted counselor enacted his revenge. Pastor Charlie shares a personal story of deliverance from anger and revenge, and he covers the main verses in the Bible that mention returning "evil for evil." This is Chapter 1 of his book on anger.

Anger 3 - Why Are You Angry Audio
Anger can indicate a growing sense of frustration, a fear of failure, unrealistic expectations about your goals or life, unresolved guilt feelings or physical exhaustion. Anger can be an uncomfortable warning to an angry person who needs to ask, why am I being so irritable? Why does that person bother me? Anger is a call to self-examination. Starting with Cain in Genesis 4, Pastor Charlie looks at why we are so angry. He uses biblical and practical examples to shed light on our anger issues. Using the controversial teaching of the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11 about women wearing head coverings, Dr. Geddert asks the probing question, "How did we get from Paul's 'yes' to our 'no?'" Are we still being faithful to the text? He also gives a very interesting personal story of his ministry in a church in Germany as they wrestled to make Paul's teaching relevant in that culture. Blameless But Barren Audio
In Luke 1:6, Zachariah and Elizabeth were “both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.” Yet, she was barren. She was blameless but barren. In this teaching, Pastor Charlie explains how many Christians are in this same situation. Believers are blameless but barren. God’s promise says they should be healed, but they are sick; they are trusting God’s deliverance, but they are bound; they know God’s provision, but they lack; they walk in God’s ways, but they are unfruitful. This can often bring great confusion and perplexity to the Christian. This study encourages believers to persevere until prayers are answered and promises are fulfilled because with God nothing shall be impossible.

Pastor Charlie takes three well-known passages from John, Chapters 5, 6, and 7, that mention the words "Come to Me." From John 5:39-40 he shows that coming to the Living Word is different than coming to the written Word. In John 7:37-39, he teaches that "thirst" is not a bad thing, but it's how you seek to satisfy that thirst that makes all the difference. Finally, in John 6:35-37, he magnifies Jesus as the bread of life who satisfies our hunger and thirst. Come to Jesus!

Complaining - Do Not Complain - Audio
Starting with the devastation of the Watts Riots in Los Angeles in 1965, Pastor Charlie identifies something even more deadly in the Bible - complaining. Beginning with 1 Corinthians 10, he teaches on the blessings that the wilderness generation had and how it was all lost due to their complaining. He covers the judgments of God against them in Numbers 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, and 21. He ends with James 5:9, "Don't grumble (complain) against each other, brothers, or you will be judged."

Complaining - It's Only A Test - Audio
The “wilderness generation” – that group of military-aged Israelites that were miraculously delivered out of Egypt only to die tragically in the desert – was repeatedly tested by the Lord. They failed the Lord’s tests every time. In the end, they ended up testing the Lord! They tested His patience and aroused His anger. Every test was an opportunity to look to the Lord for provision and deliverance, but instead they complained, murmured and rebelled. In this study, we look at the three tests in Exodus Chapters 15, 16, and 17. This is the MP3 audio teaching. The written PDF teaching is below.

Conquering Babylon 01 - Heart Adultery - Audio
This is the first in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. There are two cities in the Book of Revelation - Babylon and Jerusalem. Interestingly, both cities turn into women at the end of Revelation. Babylon turns into a whore and defiles the whole world with her sexual immorality; Jerusalem turns into a radiant bride, the Lamb's wife, who has the glory of God. In this important teaching, there is a call for all Christians to get out of Babylon and its demonic influence of sexual sin. This teaching takes a close look at what Jesus Christ said about Heart Adultery. We cover Mark 7:14-23 and the Lord's famous words on lust and adultery in Matthew 5:27-30. Anger is the mother of all murder just like lust is the mother of all adultery. This teaching explains what it means to pluck out your right eye and cut off your right hand. Masturbation, the sin of the right hand, from Matthew 5:30 is also discussed. The PowerPoint file for this teaching and all the messages in this series is above.

Conquering Babylon 02 - Flee Sexual Immorality - Audio
This is the second in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. In this strong and insightful teaching, Pastor Charlie gives a verse-by-verse study of 1 Corinthians 6:9-20. This may be the most powerful and comprehensive presentation in the Bible on the purpose of the physical body and how to deal with sexual immorality. The adulterers, homosexuals, and sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God. But there is hope because the Lord can wash, sanctify, and justify anyone who comes to Him in repentance and faith. Your physical body was not made for sexual immorality, but for the Lord Jesus. They fit hand in glove just like food for the stomach. We also see the ultimate destiny of the body - resurrected like Jesus' glorious body. If you have sex outside of marriage or with a boyfriend/girlfriend, you are "glued together" with them. This creates enormous problems in the future, especially in your imaginations and fantasies. What we are really craving is an intimate spiritual relationship with the Lord. We are to run from sexual sin and teach our children to do the same. Do what Joseph did with Potiphar's wife. The final truth is that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We have been bought with a price and we are not our own. The PowerPoint slides for this audio teaching are above.

Conquering Babylon 03 - Closing Doors To Temptation - Audio
This is the third in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. He first starts with a tragic story of a Pastor friend who lost his powerful and fruitful ministry and church because of an adulterous affair with a woman in his church. This Pastor was all alone when he counseled this woman in distress. He fell for the oldest trick in the book - alone with someone of the opposite sex. Pastor Charlie teaches that we should NEVER find ourselves alone with someone of the opposite sex in an apartment, house, office, church, car, or hotel room, because we will be tempted sexually. He uses Hebrews 12:16-17 to show how sexual intercourse with another who is not your spouse is just like Esau, who sold out on his birthright for a single morsel of food! What a terrible exchange! We also study Matthew 26:40-41 to show how watching and praying helps eliminate temptations, or when temptations come, they will lose their alluring power. Then we study perhaps the most important instruction in the Bible for closing doors to temptation - bringing secrets into the light according to John 3:19-21. He also tells the story of how he received an unsolicited e-mail from a female, and how he dealt with it by bringing it into the light. We recommend the website www.x3watch.com to set up accountability against pornography. Finally, using Titus 1:15, "To the pure all things are pure," and 1 Timothy 5:1-2, to "treat younger women as sisters with absolute purity," as the proper approach with all women in the church. The PowerPoint file for this audio teaching is above, and the other MP3 files in this series are listed in numerical order.

Conquering Babylon 04 - Fathers Training Daughters In Sexual Purity
This is the fourth in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. In this teaching he teaches on the most fundamental and important aspect of raising children in sexual purity - the father in the home. We look at how a father can maintain and lead his daughter in sexual purity and away from sexual immorality. Starting first with the very emotional look at the "father's house" that his wife was raised up in, we see how not to raise daughters. His wife, Irma, observed a father beating her mother repeatedly for many years. We look at how this damages the life of a young girl. We also see what happens to a young woman that carries the scars of this kind of abuse into a marriage relationship. In the end, there is redemption as this father receives Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. Next, Pastor Charlie discuss the different stages of how he raised his own daughter in his house. Breaking down her life into three year increments, he shows how a father fills his daughter's "love tank" and the critical junctures in her life from 0-18 years of age. This teaching includes how to teach your daughter to love the Word, pray, and serve the Lord. At the age of 12, fathers must teach their daughters about the blood covenant as taught in Deuteronomy. This is an important teaching for any father who wants to understanding his critical role in the life of his daughter. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is above.

Conquering Babylon 05 - Protecting A Young Girl's Virginity - Audio
This is the fifth in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. In this important teaching, Pastor Charlie shows how Christian fathers can protect their daughter's viriginity. Starting with Deuteronomy 22:13-21, he shows that the hymen was put in a woman's private area so that when her husband went into her on wedding night, and the hymen was broken, and blood was shed, then that couple entered into a blood covenant. He also teaches from Song of Songs 2:7, 3:5, and 8:4, that a young daughter must not seek sexual arousal, which is a fire, until wedding night. Dating is a worldly, failed system that only kindles and arouses sexual passions in them as they begin to "experiment" through kissing and touching. He then shows how fathers can train their daughters on how to respond to young men who ask them out for a date. Finally, we close with Numbers 30:3-5, showing how a father has the authority given by God, to overrule any decision made by his daughter while living at home. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is above.

Conquering Babylon 06 - A Father Teaches His Son About Sex - Audio
This is the sixth in a series of messages by Pastor Charlie on the subject of sexual immorality. In this teaching, he shows many important areas that a father must address with his son on sexual issues. Starting with John 5:19-20, the foundational verses for successful parenting, we see that the Son only does what He sees the Father doing. This is true in a house as well. Using Ephesians 6:4, Deuteronomy 6:5-7, and Malachi 4:6 we see the vital importance of fathers teaching their sons from the Word of God. He then goes to Proverbs and shows all the references to "my son" in the first 7 chapters, and explains that this is a father speaking to his son. Solomon warns us in all of Chapters 5 and 7, and half of Chapter 6, about one sin - the ultimate folly - the sin of adultery. Using Proverbs 7 as a foundation, Pastor Charlie does a verse-by-verse study of this important chapter on adultery. He teaches on how to safeguard your teens in this technological age of laptops, iPads, iPhones, and the Internet. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is above.

Conquering Babylon 07 - God's Grace On The Sexually Immoral - Audio
This is the seventh in a series of messages on sexual immorality. Starting with the sexual immorality in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, Pastor Charlie lists some of the sexual immorality there - the homosexuality of Sodom and Gomorrah, the incestuous relationship between Lot and his daughters, Dinah's rape by Shechem, Reuben's sex with his father's wife (Bilhah), Judah having sex with Tamar, his daughter-in-law, when she plays the prostitute (and gets her pregnant), Potiphar's wife's attempted seduction of Joseph, etc. There is nothing new under the sun. In this teaching, we look at the woman caught in the very act of adultery in John 8; the Samaritan woman living with a "6th man" in sexual sin; the prostitute of Luke 7 who washes and kisses Jesus' feet. We also study what happened to Jephthah, whose mother was a prostitute, and King David who commits adultery with Uriah's wife, Bathsheba. We examine God's redemptive purposes in all this sexual immorality, and get insight on what to do when you fail sexually. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is above.

Dangers Of Discouragement - Killing Giants - Audio
Did you know that every giant in the Bible that came against God's people was killed? It was at a time when the Israelites faced giants that they became greatly discouraged. Discouragement is a giant that must be slain. Also, why did the Promised Land have cities that had huge walls with people that were bigger and stronger than the Israelites? Because God wanted them to trust in Him not in themselves. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

Daniel Chapter 01b - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 1:8-21. In this teaching we look closely at the most important verse in Chapter 1 - verse 8. Daniel and the 3 Hebrew children take a very risky stand to not defile themselves with the king's food and wine. Through the supernatural intervention and favor of God, they succeed with Ashpenaz's guard and they are found to be much healthier than all the other young men in training. In the end, the 4 Hebrews are found to be 10 times wiser, not only among the young men in training, but among all the magicians and enchanters in the king's whole kingdom. In 1:17, Daniel receives his calling as a prophet of God. He is given supernatural ability to interpret and understand visions and dreams of all kinds. This is the 3rd teaching in this series. They cannot tell the dream nor its interpretation. This sends the king into a furious rage and he ordered the execution of all the wise men in Babylon. Daniel and his three friends will also be executed along with all the other wise men. God always humbles pride. As one commentator says, "If pride could make an archangel into the Devil, what will it do to mortal men?" Here is the fulfillment of the "tree dream." Daniel Chapter 05b - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 5:17-31. In this teaching we learn Daniel's interpretation of the handwriting on the wall and the fall of King Belshazzar and the Babylonian empire. Belshazzar did not learn the lesson that his father Nebuchadnezzar discovered - that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men and He puts anyone He wants in positions of authority. Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin is explained, and we make the important transition to the Medo-Persian empire. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes are also available.

Daniel Chapter 06a - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 6:1-17. This teaching looks at one of the most famous stories in the Bible - Daniel in the lions' den. In this chapter we see that Daniel was not only a godly man who could interpret dreams and visions, he was also a man of prayer and skilled in government affairs. Through a sheer act of jealousy, satraps and administrators from the Persian kingdom conceived a foolish plot to destroy the beloved prophet. We argue the point that Daniel was probably thrown into a pit of 100's of lions since over 100 people participated in his plot and were eventually thrown in with their wives and children. Daniel Chapter 06b - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 6:18-28. The prophet Daniel is supernaturally delivered by the Lord from the lions' den. He is rescued when God sends His angel to shut the mouths of the lions. King Darius runs in a state of panic to the den in the early morning hour and cries out to hear Daniel's voice. The king is so euphoric over hearing Daniel that he is greatly relieved. The wicked men who plotted Daniel's demise are then thrown into the lions' den with their wives and children. Darius finally proclaims a decree magnifying God's greatness and kingdom. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes are also available.

Daniel Chapter 07a - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 7:1-8. The prophet Daniel has a dream with visions where he sees four great beasts come up out of the sea. Pastor Charlie explains who are the lion with eagle's wings, the bear with three ribs in its mouth, the four-headed, four-winged leopard, and then the terrible fourth beast with 10 horns. We also see that a "little horn" comes up and uproots three of the other horns. This important teaching includes nearly a word-for-word study of these first eight verses of Daniel 7. Daniel Chapter 07b - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 7:9-14. This is a detailed study of Daniel's powerful vision of the "Ancient of Days" and the coming of the "Son of Man." We see a throne and river of fire before the Presence of the Lord. We get a grand look at the Supreme Court of the Universe as the Ancient of Days and His court are seated. The fourth beast is destroyed in the fire of God and the other three beasts are "stripped of their authority." Then, verse 13, perhaps the most famous verse in Daniel, where the Son of Man is seen in the clouds and ushered before the Ancient of Days. This Son of Man is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and all peoples, nations, and languages serve and worship Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion. Daniel Chapter 08a - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 8:1-12. In this important chapter, the prophet Daniel is in Babylon, but he is supernaturally transported in vision to the "citadel of Susa." He sees a ram with two horns (Medo-Persian) empire causing destruction, but this ram is eventually destroyed by a goat with a prominent horn (Greece and Alexander the Great). After the prominent horn is broken up, four more horns arise, and then a "little horn out of the horn" comes to power. This "small horn" is Antiochus IV Epiphanes who devastated the Jews, Jerusalem, and the Temple in 170-164 B.C. The PowerPoint File and student lecture notes are also available.

This is a verse-by-verse teaching of Daniel 8:13-27. Starting with two angels or holy ones speaking to each other, we now get the interpretation to the vision of the ram and the goat. We find out how long the daily sacrifice will be stopped and the rebellion will continue - exactly 2,300 "evenings and mornings," not "years" like the Seventh-Day Adventists believe. The archangel Gabriel gives Daniel understanding of the vision. He explains who the ram with two horns and the goat with one prominent horn are, followed by the "stern-faced king" who is filled with cunning and deceit. Pastor Charlie also provides a clear, historical perspective from 1 and 2 Maccabees on the devastation of Antiochus IV. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes are also available.

Daniel Chapter 08c - False Beliefs Of The Seventh Day Adventists - Audio
Daniel 8:14 is the foundation of Seventh-Day Adventist theology. In this important historical study and excursus, Pastor Charlie looks at how the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination was formed back in the 1840's. Starting with the false prediction of Baptist layman, William Miller, he traces the history of one false belief after another. Pastor Charlie looks closely at the involvement of Joshua V. Himes, Charles Fitch, Hiram Edson, and Ellen G. White, to show a pattern of very bad exegesis and interpretation. The SDA church has gotten Daniel 8:14 to say something that it never intended to say. The PowerPoint file for this is included above with the Chapter 08 file.

Daniel Chapter 09a - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse, nearly a word-by-word, examination of Daniel's powerful and insightful prayer in Daniel 9:1-19. It is critical to study the language of this prayer because it becomes the very basis of the 70 Weeks Prophecy of Daniel 9:20-27. Starting with the first 3 verses, where we examine the 70 years of captivity as declared by the prophet Jeremiah, we look closely at how Daniel prays for the "desolation of Jerusalem." The Lord is not only faithful to fulfill His promises of blessing, but also His promises of cursing if the people were disobedient. This is one of the most urgent prayers in all the Bible. Daniel speaks not only to God in this prayer, but also to God's exiled people. In the end, he cries out for the mercy of God. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes are available above.

Daniel Chapter 10a - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 10:1-9. Daniel is now in the third year of Cyrus of Persia and he's probably around 85 years old. He has been mourning, praying and fasting for a full three weeks. As he is standing by the great Tigris River, he sees someone with the appearance of a man hovering above the river. Based on the terrifying reaction of Daniel and his friends, and the description of this "Glorious Man" in verses 5-7, Pastor Avila concludes that it was the pre-incarnate Jesus Christ. Daniel is so overwhelmed with the vision of Jesus that it takes the rest of the chapter to recover from what he saw. He was left speechless and without strength. Daniel Chapter 11 - Student Lecture Notes
These are the student lecture notes and homework for Daniel 11:1-45. This teaching is broken up into 3 sections - verses 1-19, 20-35, and 36-45. The complexity of the first section is evident when you notice that 21 different kings are mentioned in the first 10 verses! The "kings of the South" battle against the "kings of the North." In verses 20-35, it is commonly believed that these verses are speaking about the cruel tyrant, Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Finally, we look at the last verses that many believe speak of the final AntiChrist, while others believe it continues the discussion on Antiochus. Both views have their weaknesses. Daniel Chapter 11a - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 11:1-19. This is one of the most amazing prophecies in the entire Bible. Over 100 prophetical details are prophesied in advance in these verses. Pastor Charlie carefully explains who are the "kings of the North" and the "kings of the South." We believe that this was not a historical account written in 164BC, but a prophecy written by Daniel in 536BC. Again, we see that the kingdoms of this world are corrupt, deceitful, and manipulative. These kingdoms are temporary. Only the kingdom of God rules in righteousness and forever. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes with homework are also available above.

Daniel Chapter 11b - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 11:20-35. We look very carefully at the life of Antiochus IV - his life and his persecution of the Jewish people. This wicked king was a master of intrigue and deception. Through his conniving, some backslidden Jews joined him (those who "forsake the holy covenant"). Antiochus IV completely destroys the temple worship and sacrifices in Jerusalem, but there are a people "who know their God and are strong," that will oppose him. These "wise" Jewish people are mentioned four times in Daniel 11 and 12. Because they refuse to compromise, they are persecuted and killed. In the midst of this persecution, they are refined and purified. Persecution always has this effect on believers. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes with homework are also available.

This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 11:36-45. We look again at a king who does what he pleases and exalts himself. Some commentators say that this king is still Antiochus IV from verses 20-35, but we show several strong reasons why this is not the case. Other commentators claim that this king is AntiChrist, and we again give some reasons why it might not be him. Ultimately, because this king lifts himself up in pride, he will be brought low (like all the other human kings in Daniel), and he will be destroyed and have an end. Daniel Chapter 12 - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Daniel 12:1-13. We start out talking about Michael the archangel and the time of "distress" or "tribulation" unprecedented in human history. This is followed by the final resurrection and the only mention of "everlasting life" in the OT. We take time to define why it says that these words will be "sealed up until the time of the end." There are three time periods in Daniel 12 - the 3-1/2 years, 1,290 days and 1,335 days. In the last days, God's people will be wise and understanding, but they will also be persecuted and purified. Finally, we study Daniel personal resurrection that will take place at the end of the age. The PowerPoint file and student lectures with homework are also available.

Dealing With Lust 1 - What Is Lust - Audio
The world is corrupted through lust, and there is a real war waged against everyone's mind in this area. Using verse after verse in the letters of Paul, Peter, and James, and looking at statements made by Jesus, Pastor Charlie defines what lust is and explains its dangers. Lust is a war within. It is not external. You can change environments, schools, churches, and even friends, and lust will follow you because it is a battle within. This is the first in a series of three messages.

Dealing With Lust 2 - You Shall Not Covet - Audio
Paul said that he would not have known lust unless the law had said, "You shall not covet." The 10th commandment is the "killer commandment." It is the one commandment that provokes all types of covetous and lustful desires. In this insightful study of Romans 7, Pastor Charlie gives us the understanding to win the war on lust. Are you constantly defeated to the same sins over and over again? Our victory is not in trying to do good, but in the Spirit of life that is in Christ Jesus. This is the 2nd teaching of a 3-part series.

Deity Of Jesus Christ
Christian believers must boldly declare that Jesus Christ is God. In this teaching we show that there is only one God not three. We first examine all of the important creeds written by the early church and in Europe after the Reformation. Then we show from the Bible that Jesus is divine, through Him God created all things, Jesus was worshipped, and that He is King of kings and Lord of lords.

Devil 01 - The Influence Of The Devil - Audio
The apostle Paul called him the "god of this world" and the "prince of the power of the air." Three times in John's gospel, Jesus called him "the prince of this world." In Revelation, the apostle John said that he "deceives the whole world," and in 1 John, that "the whole world is under the control of the wicked one." The devil himself told Jesus that "the authority" over "all the kingdoms of this world" had been "given over to me." In the spiritual world of darkness, Satan rules over the whole world. He has worldwide influence. In this first audio teaching in this series, Pastor Charlie gives a "line upon line" of this fundamental truth about the devil - his influence is worldwide. Closing with the story of Daniel in Daniel 10, we see again that our main weapon against him is prayer.

Devil 02 - Resist The Devil - Audio
In this very strong audio teaching, Pastor Charlie says that the devil is supposed to flee, run away, disappear, and vanish away from the believer. How? We're to "resist the devil." But how do you resist an enemy you cannot see? How do you resist the devil on a practical, every day, basis? Pastor Charlie calls us, not to look at the "weapons of our warfare," but our very nature. The only way we can "cast out Satan" is by taking on the nature of Jesus, which is one of humility. From Isaiah 14, Revelation 12, and Luke 10, he looks at the pride of Satan that led to his downfall. We also study why the apostles of the Lord were not able to cast out an evil spirit, and then turn right around and have all spirits "subject to them." He explains what "Resist the devil" truly means from James 4:7 and 1 Peter 5:9.

Devil 03 - Overcoming The Devil - Audio
In Greek mythology, there was a goddess known as "Nike." She was the winged goddess of victory. Her statues usually depict her with a victory wreathe in her hand like those given at the Olympic Games. The Greek verb for "Nike" is "nikao," and the NT writers used this word extensively to describe our victory in Christ Jesus over the flesh, the world, and the devil. Nikao means "completely superior, overwhelming victory, total defeat of an enemy, utterly vanquish, or absolutely triumphant." The apostle John says that we have "overcome the wicked one." Through Jesus Christ, we are more than conquerors over the devil and all his works.

Devil 04 - The Nature Of The Devil - Audio
During the first 18 years of Pastor Charlie's life, he lived in one of the hottest deserts in the country. On weekends he would work in very isolated deserts picking landscape rocks. It was there that he had to deal regularly with poisonous rattlesnakes and cooperheads. In this audio teaching, he tells of his experiences with snakes and shows how many of their basic characteristics are seen in the ultimate snake, the devil. Starting with John 8:44, Pastor Charlie teaches on "the nature of the devil." In this verse, Jesus says more about the devil than any other verse of the Bible. There are 8 important truths in that single verse. He also looks at how the serpent deceived Eve in Genesis 3, and how Paul uses that true story to teach the Corinthians about Satan and his false teachers from 2 Corinthians 11.

Devil 05 - Give No Place To The Devil - Audio
It's amazing how the devil can camouflage himself in our daily interactions with others. In Matthew 16, Simon Peter in one minute received a word directly from God the Father, and the next minute, he is rebuking Jesus, which showed that he received a word directly from the devil. "Get behind me, Satan," Jesus told him. In this important teaching, Pastor Charlie looks at anger, and how the devil can get into a marriage, a friendship, or a work relationship through anger. When speaking of anger, the apostle Paul said, "Don't give place to the devil." There are many biblical examples of how the devil used anger to dominate people's lives. He also shows the two main causes of anger - unforgiveness and broken relationships. He closes with Jesus' teaching on anger in Matthew 5, and explains why anger is the only sin where Jesus used the word "danger."

Do Not Worry - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Matthew 6:25-34. Someone once said that "Anxiety is pagan." It's what pagans do. Nothing good ever comes from worry. Looking at the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, Pastor Avila looks at the subject of worry. He shows that worry is rooted in not knowing Father God intimately. Don't Bow The Knee - Audio
Starting with a personal stand of his daughter at a university, Pastor Charlie exhorts believers to "never bow the knee" to ungodliness or compromise. He reviews how perilous life was for Noah, Lot, the Judges, Mordecai, Esther, Elijah, Daniel, and the 3 Hebrew children. He then starts with Elijah and the 7,000 who did not bow the knee to Baal. God adjusts Elijah from a position of retreat to one of advance. He next looks at Mordecai, who refused to bow the knee to Haman and the king's command. Finally, this teaching ends with the stand that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego took against the king. They refused to bow, and the Lord delivered them.

This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Ecclesiastes 1:1-18. In verses 1, 12, and 16, we see once again that Solomon is the author of this book. Verse 3 is one of the key verses of the book, and Solomon seeks to answer this question in the rest of Ecclesiastes. We cover why "all things are wearisome," and why not even wisdom can supply the answer to life. In Chapter 1, Solomon gives us example after example of things in this creation and this life that are vanity. There really is "nothing new under the sun." A person who increases in wisdom and knowledge will definitely increase in grief and sorrow because he will see more and more just how much he doesn't know. Ecclesiastes Class 01 - Chapter 2a - Audio
This is a very important teaching for understanding the whole message of Ecclesiastes. Pastor Charlie starts with a very thorough presentation of all of Solomon's wealth, riches, possessions, and wisdom, and why that's important for grasping the powerful word of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 2. Solomon had everything and had the money to do anything, but he finds it all vanity and meaningless. An important message for today's church.

This audio teaching continues our verse-by-verse study of Ecclesiastes. We cover Ecclesiastes 2:12-26 in this teaching. We learn why Solomon "hated life." Again, we see why death is the ultimate vanity, and why Solomon was driven to such emptiness and despair. This teaching concludes with a look at Haggai, Chapter 1. If we do not have God and His purpose as our main priority, nothing in life will satisfy us. PowerPoint slides and student lecture notes are below.

Starting with all the oppression that is found all over the world, Pastor Charlie reminds us that Solomon is not trying to be pessimistic, but rather, realistic. Ecclesiastes Class 03 - Chapter 5 - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 5. We start out with some very important instruction about approaching God in prayer. We should come to Him ready to listen, otherwise, we will offer the sacrifice of fools - lots of words. We don't need to make vows to God in order for Him to answer our prayers. He answers without vows. We take a look at the structural and systematic oppression of the poor. We also examine the love of money and the troubles associated with wealth. Many people think that riches bring life, but usually, they bring headaches. Finally, we again see that joy and enjoyment of our life and work is a gracious gift of God. It comes from above, not from what we own or what we do. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes for this teaching are below.

This teaching entitled, "When Bad is Better," is a verse-by-verse study of Ecclesiastes 7:1-14. Names carry reputations - Solomon, Hitler, Einstein, Manson, and Judas - all have certain reputations. Solomon wrote that "A good name is better than fine perfume." We also teach on the "glory of finishing." If we are to experience God's glory in our lives, we must finish what God has called us to do. These are the student lecture notes for Ecclesiastes, Chapters 9-11. In Chapter 9, we study just how a man should live knowing that death is coming. Death is the ultimate vanity in Ecclesiastes. We see again in this class that we have no control over our life. God is sovereign and only He is in control. Is it possible to learn anything from a fool? Yes, Chapter 10 of Ecclesiastes let’s you know that you can learn plenty from all the errors of a fool. What can we learn as a young man seeing that we become old very quickly? In Chapter 11, we examine the lives of both the young and old. What can an old man do to enjoy life seeing that he will die soon? This question is answered here. Includes homework. In this 2nd study of the prophet Elisha, Pastor Charlie looks at the testing of his desires. This is a verse-by-verse study of 2 Kings 2:1-18. We look at the test of his sincerity, and how any anointing that is received from the Lord will be tested. We must be careful who we follow in ministry, because we will inherit many spiritual things from them. The PowerPoint file for all 8 teachings is above.

End Times Seminar 1 - Introductory Remarks
It is very important to download this audio teaching first, because it sets the stage for the whole end-times seminar. Pastor Charlie shares his "personal journey" of how he spared no expense or time to learn the truth about end-time doctrine. He explains how he examined the life of Edward Irving, John Nelson Darby, and C.I. Scofield. His study of autobiographies, biographies, historical documents, ancient creeds, and rare books helped solidify his views. But he advocates for revelation from Scripture, not just research; a firm foundation in the Word, not "Left Behind" novels; and a doctrine that is old, not something new. He then gives the 3 foundation stones of eschatology.

End Times Seminar 1 - The 2nd Coming Of Jesus Christ
In this audio teaching, Pastor Charlie starts with the glorious 2nd Coming of Jesus in Revelation 19. Then he looks at the 5 things that Jesus said about His coming - 1) Coming in great glory and great power, 2) Coming with all the holy angels, 3) Coming as lightning, 4) Coming with disturbances in heaven and earth, and 5) Coming with the clouds. He then teaches from Exodus 19, Hebrews 12, and Haggai 2 to show that He's only coming once. He also uses Psalm 110 to show the timing of the Lord's return.

Perhaps the most important audio teaching of the whole seminar, this is an in-depth biblical look at the great and glorious Day of the Lord. Starting with Isaiah 2, Pastor Avila shows the purpose of this Day - The exaltation of Jesus alone. He teaches where the Day of the Lord is found in the prophets and the language of this great Day in both testaments. Next, he reveals the 6 main things that the prophets said about this Day. He explains how Jesus used the Day of the Lord as revealed in Isaiah to establish how He will come. He finally looks at the Day of the Lord in the 6th seal and the 7th bowl of wrath in Revelation.

End Times Seminar 3 - The Final Resurrection Rapture
In this audio teaching, Pastor Charlie starts with a careful examination of 2 Thessalonians 1. He shows from Hebrews 6 why the final resurrection from the dead is such a critical and essential doctrine. He gives the language of the rapture followed by every verse in the Bible revealing its truths. From 2 Thessalonians 2 he teaches why the rapture cannot take place until the man of sin is revealed first. He also covers 1 Corinthians 15 with Isaiah 25, the rapture in the teachings of Jesus, the parable of the wheat and tares, the presence of vultures in Luke and Matthew, and the purpose of the rapture. He explains why there are so many earthquakes today and how that relates to the rapture. Finally, he looks at the last trumpet and the first resurrection to show why the rapture occurs on the last day at the end of the age.

End Times Seminar 4 - A Historical Overview Of The Secret Rapture Teaching
In this 4th audio teaching, Pastor Charlie starts with a clear overview of the major Christian creeds like the Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed, Heidelburg Confession, and the Westminster Confession of Faith. He explains why none of these statements of faith mention the secret rapture. They all show that Jesus was only coming once in glory and power to judge the world. He then examines the lives of Edward Irving, John Nelson Darby, Henry Drummond, and Lady Powerscourt to show the origin of the secret rapture. We also cover how this teaching spread in Europe and America. This study also includes a look at James Brookes, C. I. Scofield, D. L. Moody, Lewis Sperry Chafer, Henry Ironside, and Clarence Larkin. He concludes with a look at the influence of Dallas Theological Seminary, Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye, and John Walvoord. This teaching includes a careful examination of why Darby separated the rapture of the church from the glorious 2nd Coming.

This teaching reviews the persecution found in the Bible, in early church historical documents, and the words of Jesus and Paul. He explains why Revelation and Daniel are "bloody books" because of persecution. He reminds us that the Great Tribulation is the Great Persecution.

Eschatology - The 2nd Coming And The Rapture - Audio
This is the audio teaching of the concise message on the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ and the Rapture taught at the Legacy Church. Pastor Charlie starts with the ominous words of the Prophet Hosea, "My people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge." Not hurt or injured or wounded but destroyed. In eschatology, many Christians in the body of Christ are destroyed because of the wrong teaching of Left Behind novels and dispensational beliefs. Pastor Charlie shows the revelation of Jesus as the Lamb of God from the Book of Revelation - He's coming back as an angry Lamb. Then he gives the 5 main things that Jesus said about His 2nd Coming, and 7 important truths about the final resurrection of the dead (rapture). The outline for this teaching is below.

Evangelism - The Great Commission - Audio
Internationally known evangelist and church planter, Dr. David Paul, spoke this tremendous message on the Great Commission from Mathew 28:18-20 at Clovis Christian Center. Using his own incredible testimony of his conversion from atheism, Dr. Paul interweaves Bible verses with personal stories of salvation and deliverance to deliver a powerful encouragement to win the lost. Also, using the four "All's" of Matthew 28 as an outline, Dr. Paul taught on ALL power, ALL nations, teach ALL things, and the Lord is with you ALLways. No matter what age you are, you can be a soul winner for Christ. We are not here on planet earth to accumulate more and more things, but to tell others about Jesus Christ and win them before it is too late.

Evangelism 2 - Not Ashamed Of Jesus Christ - Audio
Around 98% of Christian believers do not share their faith with non-believers. Pastor Charlie contends that one of the main reasons for this is not because of a fear of rejection or not knowing what to say, but because we are ashamed of Jesus Christ. That is a painful conclusion. The apostle Paul told Timothy not to be ashamed of Jesus or him, but join in suffering with him by God's power. We are either going to open our mouth and suffer or we will remain silent and live in shame. Using verses from Paul and Jesus, he deals with the shame issue. We do not want Jesus to be ashamed of us. We must love the praises of God more than the praises of man.

Evangelism 3 - Loving Lost Sinners - Audio
How could a people that fasted, tithed, kept the Sabbath, memorized Scripture, and separated themselves to God, become the most hypocritical, self-righteous, arrogant, and condescending people in Jesus' day? The Pharisees were not governed by a love for people but by laws, rules, and traditions. Pastor Charlie teaches that a lack of love for lost sinners is probably the greatest hindrance to personal evangelism in today's church. Using the life of Jesus in the gospels, we see how to love people instead of judging them.

Evangelism 4 - Witnessing One On One - Audio
Is it possible to meet a stranger and lead them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? The answer is "Yes," and Pastor Charlie shows how to witness to an unbeliever one-on-one in this audio teaching. Practical steps are shown on how to introduce yourself, remember names, and begin to draw out what is in the heart of person. You learn how to ask many key questions to get people talking about themselves and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you on how to speak into their need. This study shows also how to transition from talking about them to talking about salvation and Jesus Christ. We also look at how to witness to someone who thinks he's going to heaven because he's a good person, a backslidden Christian, and someone who has no knowledge of Christ. You will learn that one of the essential elements in witnessing is listening - both to them and the Spirit. Using Matthew 5:13-16 and Acts 1:8 as a starting point, this teaching will equip you to be an effective witness about the person of Christ.

Evangelism 6 - The Conversion Of Saul Of Tarsus
The conversion of Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9 was the greatest conversion in the history of the world. It was the most amazing display of God’s grace and mercy toward a man that we have ever seen. How God could sovereignly chose a man who was destroying His people, forcing them to blaspheme, approving their murder, dragging Christian men and women into prison, beating them, and then save him and entrust him with a final revelation of God’s eternal plan for mankind is beyond human comprehension! In this teaching Pastor Charlie reviews the violence and persecution of Saul against the church in Acts, and what he wrote in the epistles. He encourages you to reach unbelievers who you think can never be converted.

False Teaching 1 - What The New Testament Says About False Teaching
26 of the 27 books of the NT mention false teaching/teachers. In this study, Pastor Avila lists all the references to false teaching in the NT. He then identifies who they are and what they teach. He also shows how Jesus and the apostles have warned us about deception. Includes instruction from the Book of Jude and Matthew 24. This teaching has insight on how the doctrines of Balaam, Jezebel, and the Nicolaitans entered the churches of Revelation.

Pastor Avila shows from the teachings of Jesus and the apostle Paul that all foods are clean in the New Testament. He then goes to 1 Corinthians 6 to show that not all foods are beneficial. This teaching includes instruction on the importance of a good appetite and the problems associated with out-of-control appetites. We also learn why eating is the granddaddy of all appetites. Forgiveness - Dealing With Unforgiveness - Audio
How exactly are we to deal with unforgiveness? What practical things are we to do to forgive others? Pastor Charlie starts with John 20:22-23 to deal with this subject. When we "retain the sins of others, they are retained." He also looks at Mark 11:25-26 and shows how to bless those who curse us. We begin dealing with unforgiveness in prayer and with Matthew 5:44. We can discern where we are in unforgiveness by our willingness to bless those who have hurt us. Finally, Pastor Charlie looks at the most comprehensive teaching on forgiveness in the entire Bible = Matthew 18:21-35. He teaches how and why the number 1 emotional response in unforgiveness is anger.

Forgiveness - Forgive One Another - Audio
This is the audio teaching entitled "Forgive One Another." This message was taught a few days after Pastor Charlie was greatly angered and offended by a fellow Pastor friend. He starts with the "debts" and "debtors" of Matthew 6:12-14. The Lord treats us in forgiveness in the same way that we treat others. He also shows from Ephesians 4 how anger, gossip, bitterness, wrath, yelling, malice, and grieving the Spirit follow the person in unforgiveness. The person who benefits the most in forgiveness is the one who forgives. Finally, he deals with the worst kind of cases like adultery, betrayal, molestation, and abuse using Romans 12:17-21. How do you deal with someone who continues in their sin? Vengeance belongs to God.

Forgiveness - Put Away The Sword - Audio
"Put away the sword!" This is the message that Jesus gave Peter; and it is the same message He is giving us. Jesus also said, "Whoever takes up the sword will perish by the sword." Whatever instrument you use against others will be used against you. If you don't bury the hatchet, you plan to use it. This is the 3rd teaching on forgiveness. Pastor Charlie looks at different people in the Bible who took up the sword including David and Joab. The command of the apostles is "never repay evil for evil." The enemy has overcome you when you become like your enemy.

Gentleness - The Great Power Of Gentleness - Audio
Proverbs teaches us that a "gentle tongue" can "break a bone," or break down resistance. It also says that a "gentle answer turns away anger." Sharing humorous personal stories of his struggle with gentleness, Pastor Charlie teaches us about the ultimate model of manhood - the Lord Jesus Christ. He was gentle and lowly in heart. Going through scripture after scripture, he shows how prevalent it is in the Bible, and how powerful gentleness can be in the life of a Christian believer. A gentle and quiet spirit in a woman is precious in God's sight. It's a fruit of the Spirit that can only be produced by our union with Christ. We need to be delivered from the harsh, mean, and rough ways of our culture and clothe ourselves with the gentleness of Christ. The PowerPoint file below has all of the Scripture references and quotes.

Getting Your Priorities In Order - Audio
This is verse-by-verse audio teaching of Haggai 1:1-15. What happens to believers when the Lord is not number 1 in their lives? Nothing in life satisfied. Everything ends in frustration, disappointment, and disillusion. This was happening in Haggai's day. The people were sowing, eating, drinking, buying clothes, and earning wages. However, they never had enough. When our priorities are wrong, nothing in life satisfies. And it was the Lord Himself that was opposing them. How was it that it was not time to build God's house, but somehow, they had plenty of time to build their beautiful houses? They had their priorities all wrong. When the people repented, obeyed, and began to build, then the Lord sent a revival.

God Is For Us
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Romans 8:31-39. Pastor Charlie gives a summary of Romans 5-8 and shows how aggressive God's grace is towards His people. We are free from sin, free from law, alive in the Spirit, adopted by God, heirs of Christ, awaiting the redemption of our bodies, predestined, called, justified, and glorified. God has given us His Son, and this is the foundation for us receiving anything from God. We are more than conquerors over all adversity, trouble, danger, difficulty, and persecution. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Greet One Another - Audio
In this important audio teaching, Pastor Charlie teaches on one of the most powerful spiritual dynamics for releasing the agape love of God in a local church - greeting one another. Using one of his favorite chapters in the Bible, Romans 16, he gives a detailed look at how the apostle Paul greeted other believers. He greets 31 different individuals and groups. Paul always greeted people by name. How can believers in a local church, regardless of size, be close to each other if they don't even know the name of the person sitting next to them? When we greet others, we should affirm and encourage them as Paul did in Romans 16. People can be energized for weeks on one good compliment. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gave us important instruction about greeting those who are not close or related to us. We should greet the elderly, children, and the poor of our local church. This is not an issue of shyness, but of obedience. This teaching includes people you should not greet. Finally, five times the NT teaches us to greet one another with a holy kiss. Healing 10 Pauls Thorn In The Flesh
Many of us have lots of questions about physical healing. This teaching explains clearly that Paul’s thorn in the flesh was not a sickness, but a messenger of Satan. It did not make him sick, it buffeted him. Also, we examine the statement “by His stripes we are healed” and show it speaks of physical healing, not salvation.

Healing From Shame - Audio
This is one of the most requested teachings in our audio series. Pastor Charlie shares two touching stories of shame - one about President Franklin D. Roosevelt who suffered from polio and another about a close personal friend with a shameful physical disability. Shame sends us into hiding and fear. It creates a dark world around our heart and mind. In this teaching, we study Luke 8 and the woman with the issue of blood, who for 12 long years suffered not only physical troubles, but also great personal shame. We see the bondage that she was in and the freedom that Jesus gave her.

Healing Ministry Of Jesus Christ
The purpose of this teaching is two-fold. First, to glorify the powerful and spectacular healing ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Second, I want to encourage all sick people, Christians and non-Christians, to put their faith and trust in Jesus for their physical healing. In this study we will answer four questions: Where did Jesus heal people? How did Jesus heal? Who did Jesus heal? What does the Gospel of Matthew say about the healing ministry of Jesus Christ? No other book in the Bible manifests the true power and authority of Jesus in physical healing like Matthew.

The Lord's simple, but profound, answer gives all of us hope: "I am willing, be clean!" It is the will of God to be healed physically from our sicknesses and infirmities. In this first teaching on the 26 healing miracles of Jesus, Pastor Charlie looks at the 2 healings from leprosy, 2 from paralysis, and 2 from fevers. This is teaching 1 of 9. We no longer look at miracles done exclusively by Jesus, but now we see God healing people through the lives of the apostles. Acts repeatedly speaks of the "miracles, signs, and wonders" done by men sent from God. Holiness - Be Holy As He Is Holy
Pastor Charlie starts in 1 John 3 to show that we can't be "like God" unless we see Him as He really is. We love others only because we know that God is love. We forgive others because we know that God has forgiven us. We are perfect because He is perfect. After looking at Paul and Peter's pursuit of the knowledge of God, he looks at 1 Peter 1:16's command to "be holy, for I am holy." He explains what the holiness of God is about using examples from Moses on Mount Sinai and the lives of NT believers. We are called "saints" which means "the holy ones."

Holiness - Entering The Holy Of Holies - Audio
Aaron the high priest was such a privileged man. He was the only person in his family, his tribe, and his nation, who was allowed into the very presence of God. In fact, Aaron was the only person in the whole world who could stand before the Shekinah glory of the Lord. This entrance had other limitations. Not only was he the only man, but he could only go in once a year, and with blood that was not adequate to deal with man's sin. Starting with this understanding, Pastor Charlie takes us to Hebrews 10:19-22 and shows how privileged Christians are to enter into the Holy of Holies by the blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:19 is one of the greatest verses in the Bible.

Many Christians believe that once you get saved (born again), the Holy Spirit comes to live in you and that's the only experience you need. Is there anymore? Taking believers through 6 verses in the New Testament that teach about the Holy Spirit living or dwelling in you, Pastor Charlie then goes to 3 sections of the Book of Acts to show that there IS more. Looking first at the Ephesian believers in Acts 19, and then the believers of Samaria in Acts 8, and finally, Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9, he shows how in all 3 cases, believers who were born again with the Spirit living in them were subsequently baptized with the Spirit of God.

Homosexuality - The Homosexual Christian
Is it acceptable in the eyes of the Lord for a man to be a practicing homosexual and a practicing Christian at the same time? Does the God of the Bible approve and welcome such a lifestyle? Were King David and Jonathan homosexual lovers? Are the strong statements against homosexuality in Leviticus really speaking about something else? Is the Lord gratified and pleased with the ordination of homosexual or lesbian Pastors, Bishops, or Priests? Is a man born gay? Does God make or create people gay? Did Jesus ever address the issue of homosexuality? In this important study, Pastor Charlie addresses the main points presented by "pro-gay theology."

Starting with a look at the author, James, the Lord's half-brother, and his audience of Jewish Christians who were scattered to the nations due to persecution, Pastor Charlie talks about the role of trials in the life of Christians. James commands (Greek imperative verb) them to "count it all joy." We must let trials run its course, and let patience finish its work, so that we can be perfect, complete, lacking nothing. If patience does its perfect work, God will do His perfect work in us. And how we need the wisdom of God to understanding what God is doing and how we should respond. Using examples from Peter, Israel in the wilderness, Joseph, and personal testimonies, Pastor Charlie examines the fiery trials that come into our lives.

Jude - An Introduction - Audio
The world today is filled with suicide bombers, drug cartels, homosexual marriages, abortion, molestations, serial killers, cult groups, genocide, and drugs. This is depressing, discouraging, and negative...but it's reality! Christians cannot be like the proverbial ostrich that sticks his head in the sand. The Book of Jude is a great reality check for Christians. Jude talks about uncomfortable stories of God's judgment against Israel, angels, Sodom and Gomorrah, Cain, Balaam, Korah, and the apostates. The message of Jude is to "contend for the faith" and he shows you how to "build yourself up on your most holy faith." In this introduction, we take lots of time to define the word "apostasy" and many verses related to it. Apostates were around in Jude's day, they are here now, and they are in the future. This audio file includes a reading of the entire 25 verses of Jude. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are above.

Jude 01 - Contending For The Faith - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Jude 1:1-4. In this study we learn that Jude (Judas in Greek) is the half-brother of Jesus and the brother of James (author of the biblical book). He calls himself, not Jesus' brother, but Jesus' slave. We also see why being kept or protected by Jesus Christ is going to be so important in these last days of apostasy and backsliding. We need an abundance of God's mercy, peace and love to survive these perilous days. The key verse of the Book of Jude is verse 3. Christians must earnestly contend for the faith. We must stand up and fight the good fight of faith. This fight is necessary because many apostates and false teachers have arisen and secretly entered the church to deceive believers. But these false and ungodly men are exposed by Jude. They are men who turn the grace of God into a license for sexual immorality - like many ministers today. We look at the homosexual bishop, Jim Swilley, from the megachurch, "Church in the Now," and learn lessons about what present-day deceivers will do and say in the churches. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes and homework are also available above.

Jude 02 - Three Great Judgments - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Jude 1:5-7. Jude reminds his hearers about three great judgments of God from history - Israel in the wilderness (v5), the angels that sinned (v6), and Sodom and Gomorrah (v7). The point of this teaching is to show Christians that they want nothing to do with apostates and false teachers because they will be judged in the same way that these three groups were judged. The same Lord that saved Israel through faith, destroyed Israel because of unbelief. We take a long look at the angels from 2 Peter and Jude, and examine the pros and cons of the position that they are the "sons of God" of Genesis 6:1-4. We also study carefully the tragic destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah because of their sexual immorality and perversion. Finally, we look at the false preacher, Carlton Pearson, and his great fall from grace. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

Jude 03 - Discerning False Teachers - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Jude 1:8-11. How can you discern right away if a minister is false or not? Jude gives us the necessary insight. False ministers are characterized by sexual immorality, no submission to any authority, and an irreverent and disrespectful attitude toward celestial beings. Not even the most powerful and highest ranking of the angels, Michael, dared to bring a blasphemous accusation against the prince of evil, the devil, yet these men speak abusively against things they don't understand. False ministers are also like Balaam who loved the wages of unrighteousness. We must ask what a minister's attitude is toward money, because false ones love money. The teaching includes the background of the Bishop Earl Paulk sexual scandal that brought the way of truth into disrepute. The PowerPoint file and the student lecture notes with homework are available above.

Jude 04 - Trees Without Fruit - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Jude 1:12-19. Starting with the scandal of Pastor Zachary Tims and its aftermath, we look at the heart and core of false ministers. Jude's amazing word-pictures look at 4 regions of the physical world - waterless clouds, fruitless trees, raging waves, and wandering stars. These metaphors give us great insights into the nature of false ministers. Enoch prophesied God's judgment on these ungodly people, who are given to murmuring, fleshly lusts, divisions, sensuality, and are devoid of the Holy Spirit. Even the apostles of the Lord warned us that these apostates would arise in the "last days." We conclude with a look at the "Puerto Rican" Jesus, Dr. Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda, the so-called "Jesucristo Hombre." This false Messiah is deceiving millions of people with his perverse and corrupt doctrines. The PowerPoint file and student lecture notes with homework are available above.

Jude 05 - Kept From Falling - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Jude 1:20-25. This is the last teaching for this course. We start with the incredible story of the Worldwide Church of God, and how this entire cult renounced the false doctrines of its founder Herbert W. Armstrong, and embraced biblical, historical Christianity. In verses 20-21, we study the four areas that Christians must walk in if they are to resist apostasy and false teachers. This is followed by three different types of believers who have been seduced and deceived that must be snatched and pulled out of the fire. Finally, we see that it is God who is able to keep us from falling and present us faultless before His glorious presence. He alone is worthy of all glory, majesty, dominion, and power, both now and forever. The student lecture notes and PowerPoint files are above.

Judgment And Separation
The judgment of God is an awesome thing. This teaching shows clearly why God always separates before He judges. 4 biblical judgments are examined including the judgment upon the world at the time of Noah, the judgment upon the nation of Egypt at the time of Moses, the judgment upon the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah at the time of Lot, and the judgment upon individuals at the time of the 12 spies.

Love 01 - 1 Corinthians 13 - Audio
We look carefully at the greatest words ever penned by the apostle Paul - 1 Corinthians 13. Pastor Charlie starts by look at 1 Corinthians 12:31 and 14:1 which are the "sandwich bread" holding the meat of Chapter 13. Agape love is greater than any spiritual gift, and we are to make agape love our aim in life. Without love, we are nothing, and we connect this with the loveless church of Ephesus in Revelation 2. We are to love one another with the same love that God the Father has for God the Son. This teaching also includes instruction on not keeping a list of wrongs and covering over all sins, following by how love is longsuffering. This is the first of nine audio teachings in the Love Series.

Love 02 - The Longsuffering Of Love - Audio
This is a continuation of the first audio teaching on 1 Corinthians 13. First, the truths of 1 Corinthians 13 can overwhelm us. We can throw up our hands and say that it is impossible. It is. That's why we need the divine helper, the Holy Spirit, to love through us. In this study we focus on the truths that "love suffers long" and "love bears all things." So often, Christians see agape love as two people frolicking through a field of flowers, holding hands in playful delight, and enjoying one another's company. But God's agape love involves endurance and patience with unlovely people. This can be very difficult when it is people in your own home, especially children. Using several real examples of parents who have had to endure with difficult children, including adult children, Pastor Charlie shows the true nature of agape love. God has shown much longsuffering to us, and He will use difficult people in our lives to shape godly character. This is where we really learn to be "sons of the Most High."

Love Is Kind - Audio
Many of the people in our culture are harsh, mean, and rude. Often, there is an underlying problem of anger toward God, unforgiveness toward self, or prejudice toward another. Pastor Charlie shows that kindness is a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in a believer. Starting with the love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13, we see that "love is kind, not rude." In Galatians 5, we are taught to crucify the flesh including our harshness, meanness, and rudeness; instead, we are to live and walk in the Spirit (of love). Kindness is a Spirit-energized, Spirit-empowered, and Spirit-led virtue and grace. In Luke 6:35, Jesus made the amazing statement that Father God is "kind to the unthankful and evil." What a standard! It is God's kindness that leads us to repentance, and it is our kindness toward our children that will cause them to change and transform (not meanness). In Colossians 3, the apostle Paul teaches us to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, and longsuffering. Kindness is an attitude that is maintained by forgiveness. "Be kind to one another, tendered hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."

Malachi - An Introduction - Audio
This audio teaching gives an overview of the Book of Malachi. We start with the important point that the phrase "Lord of hosts" is found in 24 different verses of Malachi - nearly every other verse. This means that the "Lord of Heaven's Armies," the commander-in-chief, the highest ranking authority in the universe is speaking and we must listen. In the first chapter we see why there is so much intensity in God's feelings for Israel - He loves them intensely. What they have lost sight of is the greatness of God. The Lord is great over all the nations, not just Israel. How dare they bring sick and lame animals to the "great King." The reason there were corrupt priests, marriages to unbelievers, divorces, robbing of God in tithes and offerings, calling evil good is because the people of God were away from God. We also look at the important themes of the Day of the Lord, the fear of God, and the curses of Malachi. We agree with many commentators that the book was written during Nehemiah's 2nd visit to Jerusalem as described in Nehemiah 13. The PowerPoint and student lecture notes with homework are above.

Malachi 01 - Jacob I Have Loved - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse teaching of Malachi 1:1-8. The foundation of the Book of Malachi is God's love for Israel and God's greatness over the nations. Malachi is a very strong and corrective word from the Lord of hosts to His people Israel. The reason He says such passionate and convicting things to His people is because of His strong love for them. His love for Israel is evidenced by His hatred for Esau. God really hated Esau and his descendants, the people of Edom. He destroyed them as a people group and left their land a haunt of jackals. God was angry with Edom forever! Here's the bottom-line: The Lord is a Great Father, Master, and King, and they were dishonoring and disrespecting His greatness. How could they possibly offer lame, blind, and sick animals to the Lord who is majestic in holiness and awesome in power? It was absurd. God deserves the best because He is the best. Malachi 02 - Great Is The Lord - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse teaching of Malachi 1:9-14. We start this teaching with a brief study of the greatness of God. God is great and greatly to be praised; His greatness is unfathomable. The Lord had had enough of the sacrifices and offerings that were presented by the priests that He even looked from someone to just shut the doors to the temple and God's altar. The sacrifices were useless to God - so why not just shut down the whole charade. God's name was great among the nations, and He is a great King whose name is feared among these same nations. How dare the priests offer to Him what was stolen, sick, and lame. The priests continued to profane, defile, and hold God's table in contempt. This attitude will have devastating consequences in Chapter 2, especially verses 2, 3, and 9. The PowerPoint file and the student lecture notes with homework are above.

Malachi 03 - The Ministry & Influence Of Priests - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse teaching of Malachi 2:1-9. God speaks in all 9 verses and He does not allow anyone else to speak. There are tremendous consequences for the priests for their irreverent attitude and wicked disobedience as seen in Chapter 1. What the priests have sown, they are now going to reap. They would not glorify the Lord, so God rebuked their descendants and spread the refuse of their feasts on their faces. The priests went from the sanctuary to the dumpheap! In verses 5-7, the Lord shows the true ministry of the priesthood - it was a ministry of life and peace, that lead to the fear of the Lord. The priests of old know God and the Word of God. They turned people away from sin and iniquity. The law of God was on their lips and many sought them for instruction in God's ways. But the priests in Malachi time had departed from the ancient paths of God and had lead others astray. They had ruined, corrupted, and violated the covenant of Levi. Because they defiled God's table, God defiled them. The PowerPoint file and the student lecture notes with homework are above.

Malachi 04 - Dealing Treacherously With Marriage - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Malachi 2:10-16. The phrase "deal treacherously" appears in verses 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16, and is the theme for this section. The men of Judah were dealing treacherously with their wives. They would divorce the "wife of their youth" and marry a pagan wife that worshipped idols. This was an abomination in the Lord's eyes that profaned His holy institution. Anyone who did this abomination was to be "cut off from the tents of Jacob." God would no longer accept their offerings, even if they flooded God's altar with "tears," "weeping," and "crying." Why? Because they were acting treacherously toward their wives. They need to "guard" their spirit and not act so treacherously. What God wanted was godly children; what they wanted was divorce. Yet, God hates divorce because it cover's a man's garment with violence. The student lecture notes with homework and the PowerPoint file for this teaching are above.

Malachi 05 - The Lord's Coming In Judgment - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Malachi 2:17-3:5. The people of Malachi's day actually believed that evil was good and that the Lord delighted in evildoers. This was just another of many sins that revealed the backslidden condition of God's people. They also asked, "Where is the God of justice?" It seems as if the Lord was completely indifferent to evildoers. God responds to this question in 3:1-5. Malachi 3:1-2 has three remarkable prophecies: 1) The coming of John the Baptist to prepare the way before the Lord, 2) The 1st coming of Jesus to "His temple" as the "Messenger of the covenant," and 3) the glorious 2nd coming of the Lord as a refiner's fire and launderers' soap. The Lord Jesus would be the refiner and purifier of the "sons of Levi." This would allow them "to offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness." Rather than give approval to evildoers, the Lord judges them. On the Day of the Lord, He will judge sorcerers, adulterers, perjurers, and those who exploit widows, orphans, and the aliens. This occurred because they did not fear the Lord. The PowerPoint slides and the lecture notes with homework are above.

Mercy Of God 1 - Be Merciful - Audio
"When you sin, you want mercy; when others sin, you want judgment." These were the words that Pastor Charlie heard as a young Christian. This is the first audio teaching of his series on "The Mercy of God." Pastor Avila begins with an overview of the awesome mercy of God in Scriptures. Then he teaches from a powerful verse - Luke 6:36, "Therefore be merciful just as your Father is also merciful." He shows that the context for being merciful is with our enemies. Then he gives four ways to show mercy to others. "Be merciful" is a state of being, an attitude we maintain, a lifestyle that we live. Christians are commanded by Jesus to be full of mercy toward others. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

Mercy Of God 2 - Love Mercy - Audio
This is the 2nd audio teaching in "The Mercy of God" series. Beginning with the powerful prophetic word in Hosea 6:8, Pastor Charlie teaches how to "love mercy." He uses the example of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10 and then moves to Jesus' word in Matthew 5:7, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." He explains why Jonah ran from the call of God - he wanted judgment, but God wanted mercy. He then teaches from Matthew 9 and 12 that "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice." Finally, he concludes with that convicting verse in James 2:13, "Judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment!" Mercy Of God 3 - Be Merciful To Me - Audio
This is the 3rd study on the Mercy of God. This audio teaching is a verse-by-verse teaching of the parable in Luke 18:9-14. Why do we judge critically other Christian believers? How come we look down on others who may not be doing as well as we are in their spiritual life? Pastor Charlie asserts that the critical issue and attitude is found in the contrast between the Pharisee and the Tax Collector as they went to the temple to pray. The Pharisee could see the sins of others but not his own sins. We must maintain an attitude of "God, be merciful to me a sinner" if we are to truly humble ourselves before the Lord. This teaching includes instruction from Romans 14 and James 4 about judging others. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

This is the 4th and final teaching on the Mercy of God series. This is an audio teaching that gives an overview of the Book of Lamentations and then a verse-by-verse study of Lamentations 3:21-26. Pastor Charlie asserts that Christian believers should never be hopeless. We always have hope. Why? Because the Lord's mercies and compassions are new every morning. If Jeremiah could find hope in the midst of despair, desolation, distress, and destruction in his day, then certainly, we can have hope today. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

This is the 3rd teaching in the "Handling Money in the Home" Series. In this important teaching, Pastor Charlie focuses on the issue of borrowing and all of its many schemes - particularly credit cards and co-signing. He first reminds us that we live in a debt filled culture. If we don't change our thinking, we will not change our living. Using an insightful personal illustration on co-signing, he takes us through verse after verse in Proverbs warning us against it. He speaks against payday loans, timeshares, upfront fees, and foreign lottery winnings. On credit cards, he shows the disastrous trends in personal bankruptcies due to excessive credit card debt. He also warns against debt consolation loans. Pastor Avila gives practical advice about getting out of credit card debt. The important PowerPoint file is below.

Money 4 - Giving Generously To The Lord - Audio
This is the 4th and final teaching on "Handling Money in the Home" Series. Starting with the all-important verses in money in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6, Pastor Charlie reminds us that we "lay up" treasures in heaven not so that we'll have money available when we get to the other side. No, it's because where our money is that's where our heart will be. Our heart follows our money. Using verse after verse from the Bible, he shows the great joy and blessing it is to give generously to the Lord. Includes the great paradox of giving from Proverbs 11 and the generous man, the widow's mite and its implications, giving to the poor and needy, it's more blessed to given than to receive, giving to parents, render unto Caesar and unto God, and the grace of giving. A strong teaching for those who want to be "cheerful givers." The important PowerPoint file is below.

There are 39 different parables in the four gospels. Because some of the parables are repeated in Matthew, Mark, and Luke (John has no parables), there are 57 total parables given by Jesus. This audio teaching is a verse-by-verse study of Mark 4:1-20. The parable of the sower reveals how diligent the enemy is to attack when we get into God's Word. Shows how powerful the Word of God really is and how a believer becomes very fruitful through the Word. The mysteries of the kingdom have been given to us through the parables.

Prayer - Answered Prayer 1 - Audio
This is a very important teaching on "Answered Prayer." Quoting from Andrew Murray, Pastor Charlie shows that if your prayers are not being answered then you are praying amiss. If what Jesus said about prayer, answered prayer, is true, then if you are not receiving answers to prayers, it is a serious indication that something is really wrong. Starting with Hannah's prayer for a "male child," he teaches from the gospels showing what Jesus said about answered prayer in Matthew and Mark. The PowerPoint file for this audio teaching is below.

Prayer - Answered Prayer 2 - Audio
This is Part 2 of Pastor Charlie's teaching on "Answered Prayer." He first reviews all of the main points from the first teaching. Next, he teaches from Luke 11:1-13. He reminds us that we need to ask the Lord to teach us to pray. He gives insights on the parable of the persistence man in Luke 11:5-8, and then shows the importance of Luke 11:9-13 in answered prayer. Prayer request #1 for the Christian believer is to ask the Father for the Holy Spirit. He also teaches from John 14:12-17 and shows what it really means to do the "greater works" of verse 12. We are to pray, and God does the hard part. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

Prayer - By Nothing But Prayer And Fasting - Audio
Jesus said in Mark 9:29 that "this kind comes out by nothing but prayer and fasting." The words, "by nothing," indicate that nothing else will work. Are you frustrated by unanswered prayers or negative situations that just seem to go from bad to worse? Maybe you need to "fast and pray." Starting with the first mention of fasting in the Judges 20, Pastor Charlie teaches on many important practical truths about fasting. Includes teaching from Isaiah 58 (the fasting chapter) and Ezra 8. The PowerPoint file for this audio teaching is below.

Prayer - Calling Intercessors - Audio
In this audio teaching, Pastor Charlie starts with the broken down walls of the city of Jerusalem in the time of Nehemiah. Any gaps or breaches in the wall of any city opened the way for enemy armies or wild animals to come in and attack its citizens. Using this picture-image, he teaches on the powerful, yet unsung, ministry of intercession. Using Psalm 106 and Moses' example of standing in the gap for Israel, Pastor Charlie looks at some of the main verses in the Bible on intercessors. In Ezekiel 22:30 and Isaiah 59:16, the Lord could find "no man" who would stand in the gap and prevent destruction from coming upon the nation. God only needs one person as an intercessor to prevent calamity from coming against a nation, a church, or another person. He calls forth those who want to join the intercession team at his church and many responded. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

Prayer - Kingdom Authority In Prayer - Audio
In this outstanding teaching, Keith Martens, the Executive Director of Kingdom Ministries in Fresno, California, teaches Christians how to "get an attitude" and pray with authority in the name of Jesus. Using many biblical examples from the life of Jesus, Paul and David, and many personal testimonies, he shows how to use your authority as a Christian believer to deal with our enemy. Many Christians are asking God to do something in prayer, not realizing that they themselves have authority to take ground for the kingdom of God. He closes with an insightful review of the confrontation between David and Goliath, and teaches God's authority in prayer.

This is perhaps Pastor Charlie's most important teaching ever on prayer. It is a verse-by-verse study of Luke 11:1-4. Giving practical examples and simple insights, he gets right to the heart of prayer. He uses the Lord's model prayer to "teach us how to pray." It includes a powerful personal testimony of how the Lord blessed and delivered one of his most revengeful enemies through his faithful and persistent intercession.

Prayer - Prayer And Temptations - Audio
Temptation is a simple method that takes what is wrong and makes it look right. It takes what is bad and makes it look good. It takes what is dangerous and makes it look harmless. In this teaching, Pastor Charlie explains what Jesus meant when He said, "And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" in Matthew 6. At Gethsemane in Luke 22, Jesus also said, “Pray, lest you enter into temptation.” You will learn that prayer closes the door to many temptations so that they never come, and it breaks the power of temptation’s attraction when it does come. Thus, your victory over temptation comes from the Lord through prayer. The written PDF teaching is below.

Prayer - Praying For Your Pastor 1 - Audio
If you were the devil, and you wanted to really harm, injury, and hurt a local church, what would you do? If you were the devil, and you wanted to cause maximum damage in the local church, who would you go after? In this first teaching on "Praying for your Pastor," Pastor Charlie explains carefully Mark 14:27-31, 50. Jesus warned all of His disciples that they would be scandalized because "I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered." Although all said they would remain faithful, they all forsook Him and fled. Pastor Charlie shows some of the serious spiritual dynamics that come into a local church if believers don't pray and if Pastors fall.

Prayer - Praying For Your Pastor 2 - Audio
This is the 2nd message on "Praying for your Pastor." In the 1st message, we studied from Mark 14, but in this 2nd lesson we look at the parallel passage in Matthew 26. Pastor Charlie shows again that the sheep will be scandalized and scattered if the shepherd (Pastor) falls. Using the powerful story in 1 Chronicles 21, where Satan stands against and defeats the whole nation of Israel by leading astray one man - David, the leader and shepherd. His foolish decision to number Israel resulted in the deaths of 70,000 people. Pastor Charlie gives four areas to pray for your Pastor.

This file is also listed under “Holy Spirit.” In this teaching Pastor Charlie explains all the passages of Jesus in John, Chapters 14-16 on the Holy Spirit. He is our Divine Helper. Next, we look at Romans 8:26-27 and see how the Spirit helps us in our prayer life. In Luke 11, we come to understand that asking the Father for the Holy Spirit is prayer request #1 for the Christian. Then Pastor Avila goes through three great prayers in Ephesians that mention the Holy Spirit. A strong teaching for those seeking a more powerful prayer life.

A very encouraging and insightful teaching on the five most important elements in the daily life of Christian believers.

Prayer - The Prayer Of A Righteous Man - Audio
In this important teaching on prayer, Pastor Charlie takes a verse-by-verse look at James 5:13-18. When many Christians go through troubles and trials, one of the last things they do is pray. James says that it's the first thing to do - "Let him pray." We also cover the reason why elders should be called on to pray for the sick. We examine the importance of confessing sins, if necessary, for our physical healing. If you don't call the elders, then you can call a "righteous man" so you can "pray for one another." When a righteous man prays in faith, it is powerful and effective. Finally, we look at the prayer of Elijah the prophet. When he prayed, powerful things happened! He stopped things; he started things. He stopped the rain; he started the rain. This is perhaps the most comprehensive teaching on prayer in the apostolic letters.

Prayer - When You Pray - Audio
In this very important foundational teaching on prayer, Pastor Charlie takes a verse-by-verse look at Matthew 6:5-8. In verses 5-6, Jesus teaches us where to pray - this determines our motive; in verses 7-8, He teaches us how to pray - this determines our knowledge of Father God. In verse 5, Jesus shows where "hypocrites" pray; in verse 6, where Christians pray. In verse 7, how pagans pray; in verse 8, how Christians pray. The key to secret, private prayer is to find a room where you can shut the door, and be alone with your Father who is in heaven. In this room, you will see that He already knows everything you have need of before you ask Him!

Psalm 1 - The Two Ways - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Psalm 1. Pastor Charlie begins with a carefully look at verse 1, and shows how verse 2 is the heart and soul of a righteous man's life. He explains the critical importance of meditation on God's law day and night. Verse 3 is simply the fruit or by-product of rejecting the council of the ungodly and carefully studying God's Word. Verses 4-6 don't tell us what the ungodly do, but who they are. They are like chaff or straw that the wind blows away. Here are the two ways - righteous and ungodly. Psalm 136 - His Mercy Endures Forever - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Psalm 136. In all 26 verses of this tremendous Psalm, the Bible says, "His mercy endures forever." Christians are to thank, praise, and worship the Lord because His mercy endures forever. Everything God created screams out that His mercy endures forever. All that the Lord did in the history of Israel, especially at the exodus from Egypt, was an awesome demonstration of the mercy of God. And today, in our lives, God deals with His people on the basis of His mercy. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of one of the most powerful chapters on praise in the Bible - Psalm 150. Pastor Charlie starts by explaining the meaning of "Hallelujah" and how it impacts our praise. He breaks down the Psalm by giving us the where, why, how, and who of praise. The Lord is to be praised according to His excellent greatness. He is great and greatly to be praised. Whoever offers praise glorifies the Lord. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Psalm 23a - The Lord Is My Shepherd - Audio
This is the audio teaching of Psalm 23:1-3. Pastor Avila covers these verses in detail explaining our relationship with our Shepherd. The care, well-being, and overall health of a sheep or flock is 100% dependent on the character and nature of a shepherd. The Great Shepherd of the sheep "makes us," "leads us," "restores us," and "leads us" again. Everything we do in life as one of God's sheep is dependent on the Shepherd of our souls.

Then he gives three reasons why shepherds lead sheep into the valleys - 1) That's where all the green pastures are, 2) that's where the fresh waters (streams) are located, and 3) that's where the paths are safest for sheep. He also explains the shepherd's use of rod and staff in the life of a believer. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is above.

Psalm 50 - Thank The Lord - Audio
This is the verse-by-verse audio teaching of Psalm 50, especially verses 7-15. This Psalm was written by the worship leader appointed by David to lead worship in Israel - Asaph. He also wrote Psalms 73-83. Psalm 50 is a very unique Psalm because it is one of only two Psalms where God speaks directly to His people. This was a "prophetic lawsuit." We are brought into God's courtroom for a heart to heart talk. God didn't need bulls, goats, or any other animal sacrifice - He owns the whole world! The only thing He doesn't own is our thanksgiving. The PowerPoint file for this audio teaching is below.

Psalm 51 - Have Mercy On Me - Audio
He had everything going for him. He was the sweet Psalmist of Israel - He wrote at least 75 Psalms. He killed Goliath. He was a tremendous military commander and fighter. He was a man after God's own heart. He was a gifted musician, a man of passion, and a soldier of mercy. Yet, in one moment of weakness, in one instance of failure, it all came crashing down. He committed adultery with Bathsheba, got her pregnant, and then covered it all up by killing her husband. How does a man get right was a holy God after adultery and murder? Psalm 51 gives us one of the most intimate communications any man has ever had with the Lord. This is a verse-by-verse teaching of this incredible psalm.

Quenching Our Thirst 1 - Audio
While doing a devotional reading through the whole book of Isaiah, Pastor Charlie kept highlighting verses that mentioned "desert," "wilderness," "parched ground," "dry land," "wastelands," "dry places," and "thirsting." These words were followed by God turning these dry places into "gardens," "rivers," "springs of water," "pools of water," "planting of trees," and words like "joy," "gladness," and "Spirit." Using verses from Isaiah, Chapters 43 and 48, we see how the Lord brought water from a most unusual source - from a rock! An important teaching for any believer who is going through a dry season in his life.

Reading The Bible Every Day - Audio
In this message taught at New Song Christian Fellowship, Pastor Charlie exhorts believers to read and feed from God's Word every day. Starting with the story of Mary and Martha, he shows that we can make a choice each day to either be busy or sit at the feet of Jesus and hear His word. Using verse after verse about the Word of God, and numerous important quotes from John Stott, George Muller, R. C. Sproul, R. Kent Hughes, and Alexander Whyte, he reinforces the importance of daily Bible reading. He offers many practical ways to have a rich experience in the Bible each morning. Remember The Poor 01 - I Was Hungry - Audio
This is a verse-by-verse audio teaching of Matthew 25:31-46, the parable of the separation of the sheep and goats. In this first teaching of this important series, Pastor Charlie begins with Galatians 2:10 and takes the words there, "Remember the poor," as the title for this series. The pillars of the early church wanted to make sure that Paul and his companions would not forget the poor. Ministering to the poor, needy, and destitute has eternal consequences as Matthew 25 so clearly shows. When King Jesus comes to judge the nations, He will separate the sheep from the goats. The sheep are those who ministered to Jesus when He was needy; the goats are those who did not minister to Jesus when He is needy. The sheep inherit a kingdom prepared from the foundation of the world; the goats inherit a fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels. There are 8 audio teachings in this series.

Remember The Poor 02 - Love The Poor & Needy - Audio
This is the 2nd audio teaching in the series "Remember the Poor." Starting again with Galatians 2:10, the chief apostles in Jerusalem exhorted the apostle Paul to "remember the poor," and this was the "very thing" Paul was "eager to do." In this teaching, we lay the foundation for the main motivation in reaching out to the poor and needy - the agape love of God. We don't help the needy because of guilt or manipulation, but because we love Jesus Christ and poor people. In 1 Corinthians 13:3, Paul states clearly that if we give all our "goods" or "possessions" to the poor, but don't have love, it profits us nothing. In 1 John 3:16-18, after defining real love as Christ dying for us, the apostle John says that if we don't help a brother in need, then how can God's love abide in us? We are commanded to love in deed and in truth, not by words or mere talk. Finally, the apostle James teaches us in James 2, that if we see a brother or sister naked and in need of daily food, but do nothing to alleviate that need, our faith is dead. Faith without action is dead.

Remember The Poor 03 - The Cry Of The Poor - Audio
This is the 3rd audio teaching in the series "Remember the Poor." Pastor Charlie starts out with a personal story of how he made "a lunch for Jesus," and used it to feed a homeless man. The one book of the Bible that mentions the most about ministering to the poor is the Book of Proverbs. Starting with Proverbs 21:13, we try to understand what exactly is "the cry of the poor." Every minute, five children starve to death in this world. The poor are shunned, despised, mocked, oppressed, and robbed by others according to Proverbs. This book also tells us that the poor have no friends. How will we respond as Christians? Proverbs 28:27 says that if we give to the poor we will never be poor or lack; if not, we have "many curses." Only the righteous care about the poor and they are the ones that "speak up" for the rights of the poor and needy.

Seasons Of Attack - Audio
Did you know that half of the verses in the Bible that mention "opportunity" also mention the work and influence of Satan? The devil is looking for opportunities to attack us. Luke 4:13 says, "When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left Him until the next opportunity came." Just like we have the flu season, hurricane season, rainy season, and hay fever season, our enemy has seasons when he attacks us. Pastor Charlie gives 5 seasons when the devil will attack Christians.

Seeking God 1 - Its Time To Seek The Lord - Audio
What times is it? It's time to seek the Lord! Pastor Charlie uses the only verse in the Bible that tells us what time it is - Hosea 10:12 - to bring a timely message on seeking God. We must seek the Lord until He shows up and rains righteousness on us. He starts with the startling reality that "no one seeks God." The truth is that God is seeking us; we are not seeking Him. The only reason we are seeking God is because God is seeking us. Using humorous personal stories, Pastor Charlie encourages the Christian to seek the Lord with all his heart. If we seek Him, we will find Him. The PowerPoint file is below.

Sexual Immorality & The Nations - Audio
The audio teaching was presented by Pastor Charlie Avila at the Fresno School of Mission's "Mission Festival." At the heart of the great commission is the TEACHING MINISTRY. We must teach people the truth of God's Word so they will know the truth and the truth will set them free. First, Pastor Charlie gives a brief summary of nations like Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Sweden, Panama, South Africa, and Congo to show the enormous problems with sexual immorality. Bangkok alone has over 2 million people earning a living from the "sex industry." South Africa is known as the "rape capital of the world." Everything from rape to molestation, from adultery to fornication, from homosexuality to teen pregnancy, darkens mankind's life among the nations. Does the Bible have a response to this? Yes. The Bible includes 3 rapes - Dinah, the Levite's concubine, and Tamar. Why? Because the Lord knew we were going to have to deal with this issue. Jesus deal with heart adultery and masturbation in the Sermon on the Mount and with 3 sexually immoral women. Proverbs, Chapters 5, 6, and 7 deal with the sin of adultery. Paul, in his missionary travels, was continually confronted by sexual immorality. He mentions it in nearly all of his letters. Sexual immorality really cursed Israel throughout it's history. He concludes with an overview of the Song of Songs course that he teaches at the School. The written outline for this teaching is below.

Pastor Charlie teaches that sexual issues are the #1 moral and social issue that confront missionaries and churches around the world. We outline briefly some of the key biblical components of the Bible's revelation on human sexuality. The outline continues with a look at Pastor Charlie's course on the Song of Songs. Sitting At The Feet Of Jesus - Audio
The famous Dutch Holocaust survivor, Corrie Ten Boom, once said, "Beware of the barrenness of a busy life." If there is one word we can say that accurately describes today's American culture it is busyness. God's remedy to this chaotic lifestyle can be found in the simple story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42. Pastor Charlie asks the question, "What would you do if Jesus was welcomed into your house?" He points out the three bad things that always accompany busy people - distracted, worried, and troubled. What Mary did - sitting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His Word - is the one thing that is needed every day in the life of Christian believers. Getting out of busyness is a choice. The PowerPoint file for this teaching is below.

Verse-by-verse student lecture notes and PowerPoint slides for the entire course are above. They can be used by anyone wanting to study and apply this powerful book in an in-depth way.

Speaking With Other Tongues
In this very important teaching, Pastor Avila looks at nearly all of the main verses in the Bible that mention tongues. He first shares his personal testimony. Then, he looks at what Jesus said about tongues in Mark 16. From Acts 10, he shows that it is a gift from God, and from Acts 19, that it is an experience different from salvation. He includes a section on tongues as a prayer language, and why Paul said, "Do not forbid tongues." Finally, Pastor Charlie explains that tongues is the Promise from the Father, and how it is a fulfillment of the Jewish feast of Pentecost.

This study teaches what Jesus meant when He said to "Render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar." Also, a detailed explanation of Romans 13:1-7 is provided, where the apostle Paul explains the purposes of civil government and our need to pay taxes to maintain God's institution. There are 4 Herod's in the Bible and we see why they are important to understanding the tax question.

Testimony - Bruce Hood - Audio
This is the testimony of Pastor Bruce Hood at Clovis Christian Center. Starting at a very young age, Bruce, who was raised in a home with 13 children, decided to rebel against God, his parents, and his family. He started a life of drugs and alcohol that led to a total of 49 separate arrests. He spent so much time in juvenile hall and jail. Once, while trying to steal from a man, he was shot at six times and hit twice. The bullets were hollow-point bullets, but miraculously, he survived. Finally, one day he was so high on PCP that people in the car he was in said that two voices were coming from his mouth - one was his and the other was a voice that said blasphemous things against God. He got out of the car and ran toward a car that was coming at him at 60 mph. The impact with the car flung Bruce in the air as high as a telephone pole. His arms and legs snapped. Later, when challenged about the claims of Jesus Christ by a prison chaplain, Bruce finally surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. This audio file has the incredible story of Bruce Hood's testimony. A con man who turned into a preacher of the gospel. Pastor Bruce travelled for years with Prison Fellowship sharing in prison with Chuck Colson.

Worship Seminar 1
This is the first teaching of the outstanding worship seminar taught by internationally-known worship leader, Eddie Espinosa, at the Central Valley School of Ministry. Starting with the well-known passage on worship in John 4:23-24, he reminds us that worship is not about us but about the Presence of God. Christians must see the exalted Jesus of the Book of Revelation not just the one in the manger. Father God is seeking true worshippers not just worship. If the Lord has our heart, He'll have our worship. There are a total of five audio files in the seminar.

Worship Seminar 2
This is the second teaching by worship leader Eddie Espinosa done at the Central Valley School of Ministry. This was perhaps the most powerful teaching of the entire seminar. He answers why Christians arrive late to church services. Too much worship has become people-centered, not Christ-centered. He reminds us that it is not about style, but substance. We cannot duplicate or imitate a worship revival or style that we see in another church or movement. We must seek God ourselves. We must be on our face crying out for revival. We can never catch the fire of God from someone else; we must get it ourselves by going directly to God. No microwave fires! Eddie reminds us that the ultimate worship leader is the Holy Spirit. We must follow Him.

"How or when does a worship leader collaborate with the Pastor?" "How does a worship team introduce new songs into services?" "How do parents nurture and strengthen worship gifts in their children?" "Why do some worship services have to be so loud?" Pastor Espinosa provides very insightful answers to these questions from students at the seminar.

Worship Seminar 5
In this final teaching of the worship seminar, Eddie Espinosa takes us to 1 Peter, Chapter 2, and reminds believers that they are a "holy" and "royal" "priesthood." We've been set apart to offer spiritual sacrifices to God and set up for service to the King to declare His praises. Worship must always exalt Christ and express our love to Christ. Worship does not begin at 10:00am; it continues at 10:00am. We're just joining worship that goes on forever. Pastor Eddie Espinosa believes that lackadaisical attitudes toward the Presence of God in worship must be corrected with biblical teaching on worship. He exhorts us to walk with God as anointed priests not just stroll with Him.

You Are Gods - Audio
Christians often take verses out of context. Starting with the example of Zechariah 4:6, Pastor Charlie shows how people quote this verse and have no idea who said it, who it was for, and what was the context. He explains who the judges were in the OT, then goes through Psalm 82 verse-by-verse, followed by how Jesus used Psalm 82:6 in John 10. The written teaching is below.
